Synch

Oh, one more post while I’m thinking about it, because it’s a “hot issue” already rapidly cooling. Regarding the Ashlee Simpson SNL lip-synching hoo-hah:

  1. It was surprising to see that the 60 Minutes piece actually gave her reasonable excuse. Watching that, it was clear that she was actually planning to sing, that she had some trouble with her voice in the dress rehearsal, and chose to synch rather than sing after that. This is quite different from having her default to lip-synching.
  2. I’ve yet to see anyone mention that during the next week’s show, during Eminem’s first song, at one point the rapper lowers his mike and stops moving his lips but the vocals kept on coming without any notable variation. (And this during a song that he was clearly relying heavily on the teleprompter for). So I guess there hasn’t been a rush to “clean up” this act.

The semi-return of the blog!

You may have noticed that this blog has been dead for a while. It’s not that there’s been no TV, nor that there’s been nothing to say. It’s just that while installing some other blogs on my system (my Peanuts book blog and my blog for my as-yet-undelivered daughter) I managed to mung some file that kept this blog from working. So I took the time to transfer this blog over to the new, better, cheaper blog software. Now I guess I have some catching up to do.

I don’t have time to review everything now, so I guess I’ll just do a general new season update. Of the new season shows, I’m still watching Veronica Mars, Joey, Lost, Boston Legal and Desperate Housewives. Meanwhile, last season’s Joan of Arcadia is in danger of slipping off of the “watch” list — they seem to have quickly dumped any of the personal conflicts for Joan that arose at the end of last season, moving away from Joan questioning her sanity, questioning whether she should do whatever those-who-claim-godhood tell her to do, and are settling into a rote repetitiveness. The good questions shan’t be asked here. But Two and a Half Men has gotten better this season, with even the half-a-man being used for great deadpan laughs. Already watched this week’s twice, and wouldn’t be surprised if I chose to watch it again.

But we shall see, for my schedule shall soon be filled with baby girl Gertler.
