Mark Evanier passes along word that The WB has dropped Michigan J. Frog as their network mascot.
Me, I could never quie understand why a network wanted to get behind the message “we’re only entertaining when you’re not watching”.

Has nothing to do with the Frog, but today’s Inquirer has an article by critic Jonathan Storm which generally discusses the fall season, especially focusing on a mild comeback for somedies and how critics in general differ/argue about shows trying to convince each other which shows are good and which are stinkers.

New comedies make critics smile (at least)
Uh, please note that “somedies” was of supposed to be “comedies.” Sorry.
Smallville spoiler(s) on SciFiWire — mostly discussing James Marsters’ upcoming appearance, but a couple other things too.
Forgot to mention, but I saw a note in the local paper a short while ago that CBS is going to be showing a few episodes of Veronica Mars. I just checked TitanTV and I see that it starts this Friday with two episodes 8-10, then one episode next Friday at 8. Trouble is, it looks to me like the same episode sequence UPN started with this summer, beginning with the pilot and then skipping ahead.
I just went to the Philly Inquirer site and found the original note which appeared last friday. Here’s the full context:
{ UPN keeping “Chris.” Chris Rock’s Everybody Hates Chris on UPN has created the most buzz of any fall comedy, but that doesn’t mean CBS would bigfoot its Viacom cousin and snatch it away.
Chris “is probably the best comedy of the year, and it will never be on CBS,” Moonves says. “UPN is a full network, it’s not a farm team for CBS. [UPN president] Dawn Ostroff found it, developed it, got Chris Rock to agree to do it.”
Narrated by Rock, Chris is based on his experiences growing up as the eldest of three kids in Brooklyn in the early ’80s.
Ostroff says she “can’t imagine CBS taking the show. We function as two different networks. It’s very flattering, but we don’t develop shows for somebody to take away.”
That said, Ostroff announced yesterday that CBS would air four repeats of UPN’s freshman drama Veronica Mars, beginning with back-to-back episodes at 8 p.m. July 29. }
I reckon CBS’s goal is to get people up to speed to switch over to the current UPN reruns.
And with Charisma as a recurring on Veronica Mars this season and Marsters on Smallville, added to the already-known list, there sure will be lots of things for the Buffy faithful to keep their eyes on.
