TiVo exclusives? I think not

TiVo did some publicity about offering its subscribers a sneak preview of the new sitcom The Class, so I reckoned they were going to download it to people’s hard disks in the middle of the night. But if I’m following what I’m seeing on-screen properly, it’s nothing so fancy… nor so exclusive. Rather, they simply arrange to have the previews run on cable networks in the wee hours, and download a link to let people know when they’re running. Like The Class, which is apparently running for half an hour at 4:01 AM pacific time September 11th on The Discovery Channel’s Pacific feed, at 4:30 AM on the 12th on Comedy Central’s Pacific feed, and at 5:00 AM September 14 on Spike’s Pacific feed. I suppose it’s possible that these have some sort of encoding to keep other viewers from viewing it, but to be safe let’s all agree not to tell people with non-TiVo recording devices about it, OK?
