Bring back the bots

Years ago, there was a show called Battlebots. It was really an engineering show; folks would design remote-controlled devices designed to destroy other remote-controlled devices.

It was a successful show. Over the years, in order to try to make it more successful, they added things. They got some famous, supposedly-beautiful, obviously bored woman to interview the contestants. They tried to encourage a bit of pointless trash talk. The announcing became more over-the-top. And as in so many cases of trying to “lower” a product down to a new audience, it did not have the intended effect. The show went away.

Tonight, I tuned in a new game show, Hole in the Wall. Walls with holes in them move toward contestants, who must pose themselves to match the hole. And watching it, I realized this show was everything they tried to add to Battlebots, minus the interesting thing at the core.

I miss Battlebots. (Something that Mrs. Nat’s TV echoes. Of course, that brings us back to the snide comments that John Stewart used to have about Battlebots when it was on before or after this show. Mrs. Nat’s TV is actually Dr. Mrs. Nat’s TV. Doctorate from CalTech. Yeah, it was a real brain-numbing show for idiots. >sigh< )
