Nat's TV expands

Finally got to open my present from Mrs. Nat’s TV for yesterday’s birthday. It’s a Roku. Electronic toy! Specifically, it hooks up Netflix streaming directly to the TV, giving a higher-quality image than hooking my laptop to the TV… and leaving my laptop free for sitting on my lap while the streamed show is displaying. The Roku also supports Amazon Video On Demand, an upgrade from its original software. It’d be nice if it could support Hulu as well… but as it is, it adds a lot of possibilities to my viewing.

Video quality is better-than-VHS, I’d say. We have had on bit of stuttering during the streaming, where it had to pause and load for a while in the first 20 minutes of testing, but that seems to be the exception. The box offers various outputs, and is fairly compact. Nice little item for $99.

So currently hooked up to the TV is the cable feed, a DVD player, a VHS recorder, ReplayTV, and Roku. That’ll do for now!
